Ukrainian Navy Ships Fired On and Seized by Russia

Tensions have risen in the seas off the Crimean peninsula, Russia opened fire on Ukraine’s navy and seized three of their vessels, both countries have confirmed.

Ukraine’s navy reported two gunboats and a tugboat were captured by Russian special forces and two Ukrainian crew members were injured. In a statement, the Ukrainian navy said the gunboats were fired on and disabled as they tried to escape the area.

Russia’s FSB confirmed saying that “weapons were used with the aim of forcibly stopping the Ukrainian warships”. They claimed the Ukrainian ships had illegally entered its territorial waters and ignored warnings to stop.
