Ukraine President Declares Martial Law

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed a decree to introduce martial law for 60 days, the decree still needs approval from parliament.

This martial law decree comes four months ahead of Ukraine’s presidential elections and with incumbent President Poroshenko trailing in the polls.

The decision came a day after Russia captured three Ukrainian vessels. Russia claims the Ukrainian vessels were in their territorial waters, Ukraines navy claims they were trying to leave the area. All of this has triggered a sharp escalation in tensions between the two countries.
