Two more Catalan separatists joined a hunger strike in jail awaiting trial for the role they played in the region’s effort to secede from Spain. The strike started two days ago by two others protesting against their treatment by Spanish courts.
After Catalonia declared independence last year, Madrid took direct control of the region and brought charges of rebellion, against the Catalan leaders, nine who are now in jail.
Two of the separatists in custody, Josep Rull and Joaquim Forn said they are joining the hunger strike started by Jordi Sanchez and Jordi Turull. “We also voluntarily renounce food intake as of 8:00 p.m. on Monday,” the men said in their statement.
They are fasting in support of Sanchez and Turull who are protesting against Spanish courts failing to process numerous appeals in relation to their cases.
