US Plans to Withdraw 7,000 Troops From Afghanistan

President Donald Trump is planning to withdraw more than 7,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan, a U.S. official said Thursday, leaving 7,000 troops in the country.

Officials say timelines were being discussed, but it could happen in weeks or months. The Pentagon declined to comment on Afghanistan.

Wednesday, Trump decided to pull all U.S. troops out of Syria, a decision that contributed to U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis quitting.
