Russia Jails Jehovah’s Witness for Six Years

A Russian court sentenced Dennis Christensen, a Jehovah’s Witnesses, to six years in jail for “promoting extremism” on Wednesday.

In 2017, Russia’s supreme court ruled Jehovah’s Witnesses were “extremist” and ordered them to disband nationally. Armed police detained Christensen in May 2017 at a prayer meeting following the banning of the local Jehovah’s Witnesses.

The court found Christensen guilty of organizing a banned extremist group. Christensen had plead innocent, saying freedom of religion is guaranteed by Russia’s constitution.
