The US military announced an airstrike in Somalia, bringing the total to 22 reported US bombings of Somalia this year, according to figures from US Africa Command.
The latest strike took place in the Hiran Region. US Africa Command said the airstrike targeted members of Al Shabaab as they “were transitioning between locations in a rural area.” The US military claims 35 members of Al Shabaab were killed in the bombing. Sunday’s bombing follows four other bombings conducted over the weekend.
In 2017, the US conducted 35 bombings. In 2018, the US conducted 47 bombings. The US has approximately 500 troops in Somalia.
