Trump Says He Agrees With Keeping US Troops in Syria

Two months after saying all US troops would be pulled out of Syria, President Donald Trump wrote to members of Congress saying he agrees with keeping the military in Syria.

NBC News reported that a bipartisan group of Senators and Representatives wrote to Trump, applauding his decision to keep a small residual force in Syria. “We support a small American stabilizing force in Syria,” the group wrote.

Trump responded, telling lawmakers he agrees with calls to keep the US military in Syria, just two months after making the declaration to pull all troops out of the country.

In the president’s response he wrote, “like you, we seek to ensure that all of the gains made in Syria are not lost, that ISIS never returns, that Iran is not emboldened, and that we consolidate our gains and ensure the best outcome in Geneva for American interests.” Writing directly on the letter, Trump added: “I agree 100%. ALL is being done.”
