Fascists Violently Attack, Roma Families Moved From Italian Housing Project

Roma families were forced out of a public housing project in Rome, Italy after violent neo-fascist groups started to target them. On Wednesday, the far-right groups attacked the Roma families, including 33 children, and screamed insults as they were moved to safety.

Video footage showed dozens of fascists setting up barricades to prevent the families from reaching the housing project, as well as fascists destroying food set up for the families.

Italy’s sizeable Roma community, also referred to as Gypsies, face rampant hostility and discrimination.

Italy’s Interior minister Matteo Salvini has called for a census of all of Italy’s Roma population, and for the fingerprinting of all Roma, including children. On Wednesday, Mr. Salvini pledged that all Roma camps would be closed by the end of his time as interior minister.
