The video is the robotics company’s latest attempt to show off humanity’s near term dystopian future.
“It only takes 10 Spotpower (SP) to haul a truck across the Boston Dynamics parking lot (~1 degree uphill, truck in neutral),” the company descibes on Youtube. “These Spot robots are coming off the production line now and will be available for a range of applications soon.”
Boston Dynamics has other creations that help the world to imagine a dystopian AI takeover, including robots to replace warehouse workers. One robot can chase you down in an open field and another robot, called Atlas, can chase you down in an urban environment.
Created with funding from DARPA, “cheetah robot,” can chase you down at 28.3 mph:
Here is “Parkour Atlas”:
On YouTube, the company’s description of the robot is: “Atlas does parkour. The control software uses the whole body including legs, arms and torso, to marshal the energy and strength for jumping over the log and leaping up the steps without breaking its pace. (Step height 40 cm.) Atlas uses computer vision to locate itself with respect to visible markers on the approach to hit the terrain accurately.”
