Dow Plunges 700 Points After China Retaliates With Higher Tariffs, Closes more than 600 Down

The Dow plunged today, following China’s government announcing they will raise tariffs in retaliation to last week’s tariff increase from the US government.

Following the announcement, the Dow fell more than 700 points, the S&P 500 fell 2.7% and the Nasdaq dropped 3.5%. Today has been the worst day for the Dow since January 3 and it is the biggest one-day percentage drop for the S&P and the Nasdaq since December 4.

Not a single stock listed on the Dow was positive at midday. In the S&P 500, only a few dozen companies saw positive movement.

The Dow closed at 25,324.99, down 617.38 (2.38%) for the day.
